Science for policy,
Data for decisions,
Ocean for people.

Blue Delta is an independent, non-profit applied marine science group generating the evidence Bangladesh's ocean decisions need — from fisheries policy to coastal conservation.

Who We Are

Closing the gap between science
and ocean policy.

Bangladesh is a maritime nation. The country's future depends on the Bay of Bengal — yet between the science that exists and the policy that gets made, there has been a missing layer of translation. Blue Delta exists to fill that gap.

We are an independent, non-profit applied marine science group, based in Dhaka with field presence in Cox's Bazar — building the evidence decision-makers need to steward Bangladesh's ocean.

We work where science meets policy: producing assessments, briefs, spatial analyses, and capacity-building programmes designed for the people, ministries, and communities shaping the country's Blue Economy.

"A Bangladesh where ocean decisions are guided by science, marine resources are sustainably managed, and the Blue Economy benefits both people and nature."
— Our Vision
Our Mission Supports
  • National ocean policies
Evidence for ministries and the Department of Fisheries.
  • Sustainable fisheries & conservation
From Hilsa stocks to mangrove protection.
  • Responsible economic development
A Blue Economy grounded in credible data.
  • International negotiations
    Regional and global ocean-governance forums.
What Makes Us Different

Four ways we work.

01
Science-to-Policy Focus
Research designed for ministries, agencies, and community managers — not for shelves.
02
National Relevance
Bangladesh-specific evidence: from Hilsa fisheries to the Sundarbans to the Swatch of No Ground.
03
Independent & Trusted
Non-profit, non-partisan. Our role is to bring the best available science to the table.
04
People-Centered
Coastal fishers, traditional knowledge holders, and youth are partners — not subjects.
Our Four Pillars

Science. Society. Sustainability.

1
Blue Delta

Applied Science

Machine learning and applied analysis turning ocean data into real-world solutions — biomass forecasts, climate response, fishing-zone advisories.

Projects →
2
Blue Delta

Observatory

Field instruments, vessel tracking, and habitat monitoring along Bangladesh's coast — generating the country's first digital records of artisanal fishing effort.

Projects →
3
Blue Delta

Citizen Science

Empowering divers, fishers, and coastal youth to observe and protect the ocean — turning every trip into a structured data contribution.

Projects →
4
Blue Delta

Advocacy

Science-driven policy for sustainable oceans — translating data into briefs, dashboards, and decision support for the Blue Economy.

What we're building.

Field science, technology, and community action — applied to understanding and protecting Bangladesh's marine and coastal ecosystems.

Citizen Science App

Ocean monitoring in everyone's pocket

A mobile app that turns divers, snorkelers, boat users, and coastal volunteers into active contributors to marine research. The photo capture module auto-tags every observation with GPS, timestamp, and category; the GPS tracker records complete travel paths with custom waypoints.

Everything works offline — data syncs to our central research database when connectivity returns. An SOS broadcast keeps users safe at sea. Designed for simplicity, on Android and iOS.

02 — APPLIED SCIENCEEARLY DEVELOPMENT

BlueWatch Bangladesh

AI-based fish yield prediction

Traditional fisheries tools tell you where fish might be — not how much.As climate change reshapes the Bay of Bengal, that distinction is critical. We're building a machine learning framework to predict marine fish biomass and production across Bangladesh's Exclusive Economic Zone.

Crucially, we combine industrial AIS data with artisanal boat tracks from our citizen science program — covering the small-scale sector that represents over 84% of Bangladesh's marine catch but is largely invisible in conventional datasets.

Potential Fishing Zone

Daily satellite advisories for the Bay of Bengal

PFZ advisories help fishing communities identify where fish are likely to concentrate — but consistent generation requires satellite data processing most small teams can't automate.

We're building an automated pipeline that runs daily — pulling SST and chlorophyll data, detecting oceanographic fronts via gradient analysis, and publishing updated maps as a shared resource for fishing communities, fisheries managers, and researchers across the Bay of Bengal.
